Wednesday 10th March - Sitting

It occurred to me that these Lent windows might make some of you feel ‘busier’ as you ‘open’ to find a recipe or prayer activity. Some of you may enjoy that during this time of enforced leisure of lockdown! But I know some of you are busier than ever! So today, find a quiet spot, turn off your mobile ‘phone, take a cup of tea and just sit…..close your eyes and just sit…if you can, children allowing. Do nothing! Think nothing (quite hard to do!) plan nothing, prepare nothing….just enjoy the quiet and the taste of your drink. If the sun is shining, sit in its warmth, and stay there for as long as it takes to drink your drink…longer if you can.

Sitting                   by Phyllis Webb

The degree of nothingness
is important:
to sit emptily
in the sun
receiving fire
that is the way
to mend
an extraordinary world,
sitting perfectly
still
and only
remotely human.

Phyllis Webb is a Canadian poet and radio broadcaster.
