Tuesday 30th March - Our Eyes

Now among those who went up to worship at the festival were some Greeks. They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and said to him, ‘Sir, we wish to see Jesus.’
John 12:20-21

Homeless Jesus

Our Eyes

Our eyes
easily slide past the
dishevelled, hollow-eyed
fellow with the
hand-printed sign:
‘Wounded veteran cannot find work
have mercy on me’;

our eyes
constantly
flickering to
our car’s touchscreen,
we do not
notice the old woman
bundled in three
coats on a
summer’s day,
pushing her cart
with her life piled
high in it;

our eyes
glued to our
handheld device
while dragging
our dog on the
early-morning
walk, we miss
the kids on the corner
selling baked goods
for a classmate’s
chemo costs;

we could see you,
Jesus,
but we are
usually looking
the other way.

Prayer
Lord, give us eyes to see Jesus in all who we see and especially in those we don’t ‘see’. Amen
