Save our Planet
Approximately 12 billion plastic bags are used in the UK each year, and each one can last up to 400 years in landfill sites. We all have a responsibility individually to change our lifestyles to combat climate change and by using less, and reusing is just one easy way we can all contribute. One way is for a charge to be placed on the use of plastic carrier bags. Green England, who have the support of the Methodist Church, are campaigning for the Government to introduce a charge of 10 pence for the use of new plastic carrier bags in shops. In other countries the charge has been successful in reducing usage by 90%, while raising funds for environmental projects.
